Apply for a Civics Grant

The Civics Program aims to strengthen the civic health of our communities by providing youth with the foundation of knowledge, skills and opportunities they need to become active and engaged citizens.

Through our grantmaking, we support civic learning and engagement initiatives for middle school through college age youth, educator professional development programs, and advocacy efforts that support institutionalizing quality civics education.

Our funding is focused on the Chicago area, though we also support some national advocacy efforts that have the potential for local impact.

For more information, please see our Grantmaking Guidelines page.

Application Process

The Civics Program welcomes funding requests from nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations for initiatives that are aligned with our mission and guidelines.

Before submitting a full proposal, please send a letter of inquiry that describes in two to three pages your organization’s mission, the amount of funding requested, and the nature and purpose of the proposed program or project.

The Civics Program accepts requests up to $50,000 at any time. These proposals are reviewed monthly by foundation staff. For requests over $50,000, please submit letters of inquiry no later than August 1 for consideration at our November board of directors meeting.

You may submit your inquiry through our online grant request system.
