Over $1.4 million donated to restore the hope of Long Islanders

Donors on Long Island and from across the country have given generously to Hurricane Sandy Long Island Disaster Relief, a campaign of Newsday Charities, to help Long Islanders rebuild from the destruction Sandy left behind.

Newsday and News 12 Long Island have partnered with the McCormick Foundation to help those in need on Long Island. The McCormick Foundation's matching challenge was met, raising an additional $250,000 for recovery efforts.

More than $1.6 million will be granted to support nonprofits here on Long Island rebuilding our homes and hope.

Since 2000, through Newsday Charities,

more than 400 grants totaling over

$14 million have been awarded to local

nonprofit organizations.
