Illinois Tornado Relief Effort
Last November, the Robert R. McCormick Foundation partnered with WGN Radio, the Chicago Tribune
and WGN-TV to launch the Illinois Tornado Relief Effort campaign. The purpose of the campaign was to assist with the recovery and rebuilding efforts of our central and southern Illinois neighbors impacted by the tornadoes that hit just over five months ago.
Because of the generosity of nearly 7,200 caring donors who gave to this campaign, $880,000 was raised. With the McCormick Foundation match of $250,000, a total of $1,130,000 was distributed to nonprofit organizations providing vital recovery and relief services to those affected.
Extraordinary work is being done to rebuild hope and homes, made possible by the kindness of all who gave. It is truly inspiring to be part of a community that steps up to help others in need.
